The Jain Center of Southern California (JCSC) is a prominent Temple in Buena Park, CA that supports a growing Jain community through religious, educational, and cultural activities. Over recent years, the Temple’s facilities have expanded significantly, reflecting its dedication to providing its members with an engaging experience.

The Temple has been technology-forward since its inception. For instance, it began live-streaming events in 2006 using on-premises servers. In 2008, it added the capability for users to view past events on demand. In 2014, it transitioned to YouTube and cloud-based storage.

To accommodate a large and diverse congregation, JCSC enhanced its AV infrastructure with Bolin’s NDI® camera systems. The result is scalable, flexible video distribution across multiple campus rooms, which helps create a high-quality worship experience.

Challenge | Enabling High-Quality, Flexible Video Across a Large Campus

JCSC had deployed an extensive SDI workflow that relied on point-to-point connections. However, as it began to experience significant growth, the Temple’s need for a more flexible AV setup became clear. With multiple event-capable rooms spread across its extensive 165,000 sq. ft. campus, the Temple required a more dynamic solution to handle a wide range of AV needs and gatherings, from small groups of 50 to large, multi-day celebrations with over 2,500 participants. SDI’s point-to-point connections and complex wiring did not easily adapt to these demanding conditions.

The Temple sought a scalable video solution to match the growing needs and imagination of the community, including live mobile video and remote video guests. “The Temple successfully deployed a Dante® audio network in 2016,” said Narendra Maniar, JCSC’s Production Manager, “so we were already transitioning to AV over IP systems.” Given the success of networked audio, the team decided to pursue a networked video solution. After significant research into networked video technologies and supporting products, “NDI technology became a clear choice, especially when coupled with Bolin’s high-quality PTZ cameras,” Maniar said. Last Minute Media, a local ProAV technology consultant, led the upgrade project to integrate Bolin’s NDI cameras into their system.

Last Minute Media chose Bolin’s N2-220XW NDI cameras for their high-quality video output, smooth and quiet PTZ motors, compatibility with NDI technology, and price point, providing a simplified, powerful, and cost-effective solution for networked video distribution. Key features of this setup included:

  • Flexible Placement and Control: The cameras’ 20x zoom significantly improved the previous system, which had a limited 10x zoom range. They now allow precise, detailed visuals across large rooms.
  • Networked Video Capability: Bolin’s NDI cameras allowed easy video routing and distribution across various rooms, including the main sanctuary, Assembly Hall, and multiple overflow rooms.
  • Aesthetic Integration: The white-colored camera bodies matched the Temple’s decor, maintaining the necessary architectural integrity of spaces like the Temple sanctuary.

Bolin NDI HX3 N2-220X PTZ: Meeting the Needs

Last Minute Media installed six Bolin N2-220XW PTZ cameras, configuring them to handle intimate prayer services and large gatherings easily. These certified NDI HX3 cameras are perfectly integrated into JCSC’s robust infrastructure, allowing flexible routing and simplified control. The result is a streamlined, visually rich experience for attendees across all Temple facilities, including:

  • Main Hall – Largest facility. It has a theatre-class stage and control system
  • Dining Area / Main Hall Overflow – Adjacent to Main Hall.
  • Temple Sanctuary
  • Sanctuary Overflow – Adjacent to the sanctuary
  • Assembly Hall: This can be used as one large room to hold 900 people or broken down into 4 smaller breakout/classrooms.
  • Prayer Hall – Smaller Hall to accommodate 200 people.

Outcome | Enhanced Worship Experience with High-Quality, Reliable Video

Adopting Bolin’s NDI cameras has transformed how JCSC manages its AV needs. The flexibility of NDI and the quality and convenience of Bolin’s PTZ cameras ensure that each space can serve various functions, from the Main Hall with its theater-grade AV setup to smaller prayer and assembly rooms, which benefit from the same video clarity and quality level.
